The experiments of polyvarie ties and pelyfactors in maize were carried out in 1992 and 1993 in Shouyang County of Shanxi Province at cold dry-lind of altitude. Vertical ecological experiments inmaize were carried out too, Results indicated that the early and medium- early maturing varieties couldcomplete their growing cycle,but each state uf growth period were slower,all process uf growth anddevelopment were longer.The growing cycle could divide three phases of growth and development,i.e. sowing to elongation,elongation to heading and heading to maturation, The three growth phaseswas characterized by‘long-short-long’,i.e,‘two long and one short’.First growth phase were short-ened gradually with the letening of sowing times,First and third growth phases were prulonged gradu-ally with the increasing of elevation, There was a very significant positive correlation between the daysfrom sowing to maturity and from sowing to elongation. All process of growth and development in themaize were embcabodied temperature effect.

On the basis of observation with the temperature of wheat population for many years,low tem-perature population has been discovered in natural word.The population has a lower temperature with covering layer,longer functional period with leaf and fuller source, which is very favourable for milk-filling. Especially cold typal wheat in preceding population has a long time limits with tempera-ture which is lower than that of control wheat,strong evaporation and higher net photosynthetic rate,which is particularly favourable to enrich grain, Discovery of the typal wheat provides important theo-ry and practice bases for the selection of excellent parentage, line and variety.
