Abstract The changes of soil moisture caused byexperiment that a potato stubble field was only treated bydisk harrow—minimum tillage(MT)—was researched in Dryland Farming Experimental Aleas inWuchuan of Inner Mongolia in 1989~1990. As contrast,another potato stubble field was turned upsoil by moldboard plow(CK).The resul ts as follows:MT improved soil water-holding capaclty and water-providing ability,Soil water content underMT was higher than that under CK in the period of germination,and this promoted full stand and earli-er germination of spring wheat. The higher germination rate under MT conduced to higher effectiveears.This is the reason that yield of spring wheat under MT was higher than that under CK.
