Abstract: It is important for the guarantee of tomato supply all the year round in markets in the middle and lower Yangtze River area. It is possible and also profitable to plant tomato in mountain area in summer and autumn by utilizing the ■ool climatic resources. The climatic-ecological responses of tomatoes at different altitudes were investigated in detail. It is concluded that tomatoes grow very well at the altitudes 600-1000 metres above sea level in summer and autumn in Tian-Mu mountain area. The optimum transplanting and starting harvest time were calculated from the view point of fully utilizing the climatic resources in the mountain area after three year study.
