Abstract: Having studied the earliest, and the latest possible periods of full-spike of the local rice, the present paper pointed out that cold waves can hurt the second-crop rice in three periods, and the severity of the cold waves necessary to cause damages are quite different in different periods, ie, the conditions to safeguard the rice meteorologically are quite different in different periods. Based on these, a relatively practical method was given to assess the thermal conditions of the respective periods. Lastly, climatological patterns were given to show the situations under which the second crop rice will be hurt by the cole waves.
