Abstract: Based on the remote sensing data, GIMMSNDVI and MODISNDVI datasets during 1982-2010, technology of GIS spatial analysis and statistical processing, the spatialtemporal changes of vegetation coverage in Songhua river basin and its vegetation response for climate change were analyzed. The results showed that there were significant spatial differences of Songhua river basin vegetation; NDVI of mountain was significantly higher than that of the central plain. In the past 29 years, Songhua river basin vegetation NDVI was relatively stable, the change was not obvious, but it had obvious stages: vegetation cover kept increasing from 1982 to 1990; minor fluctuations of vegetation was relatively stable from 1991 to 1997; major fluctuations of vegetation dropped from 1997 to 2003; NDVI increased slowly from 2003 to 2010. Based on the relative analysis of pixel, it showed that Songhua river basin NDVI was highly correlated with temperature and precipitation (P<0.01), the change of vegetation affected by temperature was stronger than that affected by precipitation. Coniferous forest got the most impact which caused by the temperature in Songhua river basin.
