Abstract: The concentration of total suspended particulates(TSP) and airborne particulate matters(PM10) in both sides of looped forests in Shanghai outskirts in winter and spring seasons were synchronously measured. The results showed that the dustproof effect of forests was related with the wind direction. The daily mean concentration of TSP and PM10 in the forest-leeward was 19%~44% and 39%~61% lower respectively than that in the forest-windward.The results of measurements for the particulates radius distribution showed that the relative content of the bigger granule matters in the forest-leeward was smaller than that in the forest-windward.The accumulated weight percentage of the bigger and the smaller particles was high in winter, while the accumulated weight percentage of the middle particles was low in winter. However,in the spring, the accumulated weight percentage of the middle was high and the accumulated weight percentage of the bigger and smaller particles was low.The results indicated that the roadside forest in Shanghai existed a definite dustproof effect under different wind directions in winter and spring seasons.
